Are the 2024 Albury Wodonga Business Awards right for me or my business?

Consider entering the awards if:

  • You own or manage an outstanding established or new business or have outstanding leadership skills – either as a young, emerging or seasoned leader.
  • You have achieved outstanding results and can demonstrate an improvement journey in the previous 12 months.
  • You would like to find out how you’re going against your peers or just get feedback that will help you grow and improve.

Even if you don’t win an award, you will gain much from taking time to reflect ON your business and identify what else you could do to grow and improve.

Why enter the awards

  • Reflect on your business achievements and celebrate your wins.
  • An opportunity to work on your business – step out of the day to day and think about your strategy, vision and purpose.
  • Finalists and winners can use this as a marketing tool, offering social proof of how your business operates and excels.

Optional BusinessNSW Business Awards category entries

This year four of our categories are aligned with the Business NSW Awards categories. We’ve made it easy for eligible NSW-based businesses to enter the BusinessNSW Awards through the 2024 Albury Wodonga Business Awards.

If the winner from one of the four aligned categories would like to be progressed to the Business NSW Regional Awards as a Regional Finalist in their category, they must:

  • comply with the BNSW Awards Terms and Conditions
  • complete the online entry system for the purpose of judging
  • category winners at a Local Business Chamber level must satisfy a gateway score that BusinessNSW will set at the start of every awards program
  •

Regardless of where you end up placing in the Awards, you will receive a short summary report that you can use post-awards to continue to pursue an improvement journey, should you choose to do so.

Tips for a great entry

  1. Give yourself enough time to complete your submission – don’t leave it to the last moment. Your entry shouldn’t take more than a few hours in total to complete. This includes reviewing each question, gathering the necessary information, and writing and reviewing your answers.
  2. Make sure your answers are clear and specific, and answer the question using the hints provided.
  3. Don’t get overwhelmed by the process or any of the elements. Start by outlining some points that address each question and key criteria. It’s worth keeping in mind that a winning entry is likely to be one with logical and well-considered responses accompanied by proof points. It’s not about the most words or including everything, it’s about choosing your words wisely!
  4. Assume the judges know nothing about your business and answer the questions completely.
  5. Feel free to use bullet points. Make sure each bullet point adds to and provides a complete picture rather than being a series of disconnected or loosely connected points.
  6. Enlist helpers to craft your responses. Better still, engage the team members with relevant subject matter expertise to get involved and make it a team effort.
  7. This is not the time to be humble or modest.  Think about how your best friend would describe you and use that as a starting point.

Yes – if you are an established business (trading continuously for more than 2 years), you can enter Outstanding Business in your industry sector (in 2023 there are 8). If you have employees, you can also enter Outstanding Employer (Employer of Choice) if you want to (it’s optional), but you will need to answer and be judged on a separate set of questions.

If you are a new business (trading continuously for less than 2 years), you can only enter Outstanding New Business.

Yes – if you are an established business (trading continuously for more than 2 years) and have employees.

Just because a business in your category is bigger than your business, or has been around longer, doesn’t automatically make it better. We’re judging businesses for their performance, achievements and improvements over a specific one-year period, which means that any business can win. Also, to ensure smaller businesses are not unfairly disadvantaged, factors such as size and maturity will be accounted for in the judging process.
